4 year old stammering

My DD (4y4m) has started stammering in the last week or so. She’s not at school yet - will start in September. I wouldn’t say it’s extreme at all but it’s noticeable. I asked at nursery pick up if they had noticed and one of the keyworkers said yes if she comes over to ask a question it might happen. She is dragging out the initial sound of words like at bedtime this evening ‘wwwwwwwhat does cautionary mean?’ Or she may repeat a word at the start of the sentence. ‘Am am am am am I going to have some milk soon?’
Its not every sentence and once she’s over that initial bit she chats away fluently.

She’s a very articulate talkative child with a huge vocabulary and has been chatting from a very young age, when she was 2.5 this happened as well but it was more like mu mu mu my type stammering, it went fairly quickly.

I was wondering if anyone had any insight into stammering at age 4 could offer some reassurance and if it’s something I should be thinking about seeing a SALT for?

I've not had one who stammers but I think seeing SALT would helpful. Usually they engage the DC in games and they enjoy the sessions.

Might be worth doing this social and emotional progress checker too Wink

Hi, I came across your message and wanted to ask,how is your daughter now? Did she outgrow it? My daughter is same 4 years and 4 months old, and she suddenly started having trouble speaking — one day she just woke up and couldn’t talk properly.
