Huge head!

DD had a 37cm head at birth. Shes 8 months now and her head is 48cm. Its off the charts! We've been referred for a scan and I am terrified! Both me and DH have huge heads. I've been seeing that big heads are linked to development disorders and I am panicing. Anyone else dealt with anything like this?

My little girl was born 8lb 9 her head was either 35 or 38 I can’t remeber but at her 12 month check she was 11 months her head was 49cm and HV said cause it’s jumped 2 or 3 percentiles it was more concerning so seen the gp and he said oh she’s a big girl above average for weight and height I’m sure she’s fine but once he measured her head he said actually I’m going to write to peadatrician that was in June 2024 we only saw the peadatrican last month so jan 25 he measured her head again and was 50cm so didn’t grow much she was 18 months he said as long as no concerns about development if there was any sort of developmental delays it would be noticed before now and that again she was above average for weight , height so in proportion sort of thing nice way of putting she’s just got a big head she’s hit all her milestones fine but it don’t stop the worrying if I had the option for a scan I defo would of had it but they didn’t offer me one. Not much advice but just I know the worry didn’t want to read and run. I’m sure your little one will be fine it more common than we think I think I read every forum on every website and almost every outcome was the same just large headed baby’s lol x

@MumSH99 thank you! She is on the 91st for height and 50th for weight. Shes very tall and slim! She hasn't had like a huge spike in her head growth, its gone from the 91st to above the 99th which is why i think they're doing the scan but to me, she started out with a big head so obviously its going to grow! Just so scary when its your baby!

My DS1 had a whopper of a head... as a toddler he could never wear hoodies as we couldn't get them on,, and he was short and stocky and looked like a bobble head doll! He was referred for scans...turned out he just had a big head, and as he grew he gradually grew into it ! Adult now and looks perfectly normal :)

DGS too (not DS1's child but sisters') is exactly the same... they could see on the scans before he was born that he had a big head, short femurs and a big tummy! He's nearly 4 now... and has a big head, short legs (he's very short!) and a slightly less big tummy...and is absolutely fine. If you've got big heads it's very unlikely anything is wrong, people just come in all shapes and sizes :)

@Sonolanona that makes me feel slightly better thank you. I'm so anxious and scared for her. I'm hoping she just has a big head like us
