omeprazole - does it work

Desperate to hear any positive experiences giving omemprazol to babies. Our little boy's just been prescribed it and i'm terrified it won't work or it will have some side effects. Has anyone had any experience taking it?Will it work for his reflux? He's currently trialling and amino acid based formula, we've tried thickening it but he's still unfortunately suffering with silent reflux.

How is he now? Have you tried it today?

It was a complete game-changer for DD2 – she was absolutely miserable with reflux (and very much not silent, so weight gain was not going great and huge amounts of laundry). It can take a little while to build to full effectiveness, but she was hugely happier and more settled within 48 hours. No side effects, and she took it really well.

thats amazing news!!were you on quite a high dosage or started at the minimum?

we've given him 4 doses (we split the daily dose in 2) and saw some mild improvement apart from at night time where he spent hours screaming

I took it throughout my pregnancy for heartburn and reflux and my baby is absolutely fine 🙂 I think if it's safe for pregnancy it should be entirely safe for your baby

She did well on 1 mg/kg, so the standard 'starter' dose, but it was clearly just barely enough – we had to be really on top of getting her weighed and the dose adjusted.

How has your wee one been today?

@skkyelark thats reassuring most people say an increased dose in the only way it works!We're actually in hospital at the minute as the omemprazol massively made things worse, we're currently on day 4 while in hospital and starting to have some mild improvements, we've had a lot less screaming today, have my fingers crossed we're on the up!
