8/10 months old not babbling? Autism?

Hi,

My little boy is nearly 10 months old - but as he was premature we have to go by his corrected age for milestones which is 8 months 1 week.

A few months ago, we noticed he was making noises like Da Da, Bbb, etc etc but recently this has disappeared. He is almost silent. He makes the odd Bbb sound but not very often.

We've noticed he's suddenly upped the motor skills and he is crawling, climbing, pulling himself to stand and we've had to add the stair gates as best believe he's tried to climb them.

Could it simply be he's put his vocal skills on hold to master the motor side of things?

I'm more worried because he doesn't imitate us, if we lay him down for a nappy change and say 'Say dadadadada' he will just smile and laugh at us, although he watches our mouth and maintains eye contact the whole time.

Most of the time he's trying to escape us to explore something he's found than sit and listen to us?

I'd say 8/10 he will respond to his name and look directly at us if we make a noise the minute we walk into a room. He can do 'high five' and he loves it when we hide and boo at him...

I just need a bit of reassurance that this might come? and any similar stories of someone that's had a quiet but mobile baby, that ended up vocal and talking xxx

I wouldn’t worry. My sister’s dd was completely silent! Would just lie there/sit there not making any noise at all and never babbled and then was quite late to learn to speak. My sister was never worried, but I noticed as she was so different from my dc. Her dd is now a teenager and can be quiet at times but other than that you would never guess she had been such a quiet baby.
