Obviously she isn't trying it alone! If she is sat up with me just holding her hands she tries to lean forward and push up with her legs. Is there any reason to not encourage this? I will try to get a pic to put on profile when I get a chance.

My DD did this at around 6 weeks as well. I have heard some people say that it will make them bowlegged, but that it a myth. My DD spent most of the day trying to stand up, and her legs look fine to me! She's pulling up and cruising at 9 months.

My ds did this aswell. He was walking at 10 and a half months and has always been very advanced. He isn't bowlegged.

my DS did the same and apparently so did I! my mum was told by HER gran that it would make me bandy! it didn't

Piffle · 06/05/2008 14:55

both my boys were like this from the off
both walked at 9/10 mths

One of my friends litle boy was exactly like this. Could stand with support by 8 weeks...rigid as a board. Was walking by 8 months. Not always something to be encouraged, as she was running round after him for at least 2 months before the rest of us at coffee mornings, whilst we enjoyed our cake in relative peace....

Yep ds did this but wasn't advanced at anything (walked at 14mo)

And yes, my grandma would tut and cluck if she saw us letting him stand because apparently he'd be bowlegged

moocowme · 06/05/2008 15:55

mine did it from 8 weeks. whole little body would go rigid, now he has learnt to do it with just his legs. at 7mo he is starting to pull himself up. i feel sure he will be walking soon.

from 8weeks+ he has been obsessed with it, he will get cranky if we don't do enough stand-ups every day. the world is bliss for him if he can stand-up while giving mummy a cuddle.

Glad lots of your dc's have done this. My dd1 did it at about 8 wks (not bandy btw) but I just wondered if 6wks was a bit too young iyswim.
Thanks for your posts

My Ds was doing this too and the HV saw him and told me not to let him as their bones are too soft at this young age and they can indeed become bow legged. I played safe with Dd. Why risk it?
