13 mo biting (just me) for months now. How do I stop her?

My DD has 8 teeth and loves to bite. It started months ago and shows no signs of stopping. She bites me regularly- several times a day- and her brothers (18 and 16) occasionally. AFAIK she doesn't bite other children, and the biting started before she started nursery.

I have bruises up and down both arms where she has bitten me, and Friday she bit me hard enough to draw blood It is very sore.

I've tried

  • shouting ow! (she laughs)
  • shouting NO (she laughs)
  • calmly saying no and putting her down (she cries, but it doesn't stop her doing it again)
  • ignoring it
  • ignoring her
  • holding her nose (to release her grip- she laughs)
  • lost it last week and smacked her- not hard, on her well-padded bottom (she grinned)

She has occasionally bitten me while BF but that doesn't happen very often. She did bite down last week and when I looked down at her she was grinning so I instantly took her off and put her on the floor. No reaction but she tried it again a bit later

The only advice I've been given is to "bite her back" and I can't bring myself to do it. DH says it's my fault because we play biting "games" (blowing raspberries on tummy; eat-you-all-up stuff) but I'm never rough with her.

How do I stop her and is she just evil?

don't bite her back

she isn't evil - she is a toddler

DS starting biting a lot as he is a slow teether

we are very firm - "no" said in a low, firm voice and removed from the situation

i do the same evry time, and this is re-inforced at nursery

it may take a while but honestly it isn't your "fault" either - i would say 9 out of 10 children bite and the other 1 out of 10 are probably pinchers

Thanks for that.

(she did go through a phase of also pinching the underneath of my upper arms while feeding.. there's no hope for her, is there?! )

gecko is 15 months and I could have written that op
I just say 'No' firmly and remove her from feeding or put her down

....I live in hope that she may stop one day

Ds was 1 yesterday and he is exactly the same - seems to bite daddy more than my but its happening more and more at the moment - coinciding with another tooth coming through?

We have tried tapping his hand, putting him down, telling him no - nothing works - he also pinches under my arms
