Hello I'm just wondering if anyone can help me , my three year old/ almost 4 has a diagnosis of developmental delay. On top of that he's been waiting about 20 months for his autism assessment and is due to start school, I wrote a letter to the pathway about his behaviours and his development, how he stims and everything you can think of and sent it through email in December, they replied to me and phoned me up in the middle of December and told me that I will get a phone call in January to start his getting his diagnosis for debuary this year now that was fine, I have been in contact with someone from the asd pathway today and she told me that I will recieve his diagnosis in February instead of starting his assessments , i informed her he hadn't had his assessments and even she was in shock , she looks theiuhh his information and said that he has had a speech and language observation in October 2024 , I know he has a specialist teacher going into school but I'm not sure if they observe for the assessment. All I know is I've not recieved any letters or anything with his appointments and she said that maybe they think that the speech snd language observation is enough to go to panel , she said she is going to pull a meeting with his evidence and talk through and let me know within the week, im not sure if anyone has been into his nursery because i havent been informed other than the specialist teacher going in. Can they diagnose with a speech and language ibservstion and information from his appointments that are sent to them? Is it because of my letter and putting everything on there that thsy are taking it to panel? Has this every happened to anyone else because I'm not sure they can diagnose with 1 assessment and his medical history/ appointments he's had with information about his behaviours and sensory issues. I am just very confused.

No help I’m afraid. This board is like tumble weed for most posts for some reason these days - there is a SEN discussion board that may be more helpful x

I would also ask for this to be moved to SN Chat or SN Children – there are a number of posters there who have been through the ASD assessment process and might know more.

DC2 had a triage appointment where they took an awful lot of detail and an assessment with a specialist SLT about 18 months later. From there they took the findings to a panel and DC2 received their diagnosis.

Does your DC have an ECHP in place?

And I second having a look at the SN Children section too Wink
