Hey,

I was hoping someone might have had a similar experience and be able to give me give some advice.

I have just started potty training my 3 since October little boy.
He is currently non speaking so is that in itself is a little bit of a challenge but communicates very well in other ways.

We are just starting day three and have yet to have any wees on the potty still early days I know he seems to wee so fast I can't even catch him to get him to the potty to complete it.

I have been sitting him on the potty every 30 mins he is not upset by this sits for a few mins no wees poos yet but will sit for a minute then stand up and pull up his pants and head off.

We not under any pressure to potty train we ate very lucky and he attends a fabulous playgroup 3 hours a day and nappies are not a problem he was showing some signs of readiness hiding to poo ect.

Sorry long post but my question is does it just take a while for it to click should we persevere for a few weeks or try again in a few months.
My daughter got it quite quickly, I do t want to pressure or put him off there is no rush

Thanks again

It's difficult isn't it when they are non-verbal.

Does he mind it if he feels wet? I put my DC2 back into cloth nappies and they really didn't like the cold, wet feeling so used the potty instead.

You could try plonking him on the potty at regular times, like when the bath is running with a storybook in potty training, your local library should have a few different ones.

Then ignore if he doesn't do anything but if he ever does, then make a huge fuss. We did this with both of ours but DC1 was verbal and it was easier.

Are you using any signs, like Makaton, and has he had any referrals for speech delay? Flowers

Hey

Thanks for your reply.

I'm putting him on the potty every 30mins or so
Day 4 still no wees in the potty no wees at all today I'm a bit worried he is holding them in might be a sign he isn't quite ready.

If we have no luck today I might give it a break and try again in a few months we are not in any panic to concur it.

Ye he is currently doing SALT weekly and is coming on leaps and bounds.

Non verbal does make it more of a challenge indeed for everyone 🙈

Has he had a hearing test too @Worriedmumof3uder3, just to rule out Glue Ear and does he have a ECHP?
