Should I get my son assessed?

It has been a very long time since I have posted on here but I’m after some advice if possible.

My son is 8 years old and he struggles with his emotions to the point he will punch himself in the head. We find it very difficult to get him out of his mood and it can be the smallest thing that sets him off and all of sudden he says he wants to die and that we hate him.
He has a plan in place in school to help with his learning which in the last year he’s been doing really well. He not in trouble in school and when he is it’s for talking. He does say he finds it hard to concentrate in school and At home we can put a film on and within a few mins he’s rolling around the floor and talking all the way through. Do you think I should go to the gp about his behaviour? I just feel recently I’m telling him off and it may not be his fault.

Hello and welcome back. It does sound as though a visit to the GP would be worthwhile.

Have a read up on the 3 types of ADHD, the signs of ASD and Dyslexia.

I'd also do this simple progress checker and see if that says if he needs any support.

Have you spoken to his Teacher at all about his behaviour?
