My DD also had very little hair at 1. She did get her first tooth at 11 months old but it was still only little so not very noticeable. She will be 6 on Saturday and is still little for her age. I am not concerned about it though as she is doing everything she should be and is in proportion. People find it hard to believe she is in Year 1, they always think she is in nursery!

dont worry about it, there is a little girl at ds' nursery- she is slightly older than ds2 so she must be about 19 mths old.
her teeth have only recently started to come through- he parents were concerned so took her to the dentist when she was about 17 mths old and he told them not to panic- her teeth would come through in thier own time, not long after they did.

as for the hair- my cousin (female) had very short thin hair up until she was about 21/2 then it grew with avengance!
it was so short that once we were in a pub having a meal and some one asked what "HIS" name was- she was 2 at the time.

dont worry, they will soon come- all her teeth will probably come through at once so im sure some sleepless nights are ahead!!!

My dd only had a thin covering of very short fine baby hair at 12 months and she got her first tooth at 15 months. We thought she was never going to get teeth!

Now, a year on, she has had a haircut and she has her 11th and 12th tooth coming in. Please don't worry.

My 1yo DD is the complete opposite, full head of hair when she was born and has all her teeth, all children are different, my friends DS has no hair and no teeth also, they're the same age but look completely different ages when next to each other! At least you haven't had the nightmare of teething yet!

Hulababy · 12/01/2005 12:08

My Dd was exactly the same at that age. She had very thin, fine wispy hair and not much of it. I used to put bandanas on her head all the time to keep her head warm in the winter. She's older now though and it is growing much better now, although still very fine - just like mine was!

And she had no teeth either - she got her first tooth at 13.5 months, and then it wasn't even one of the botto middle ones. They all came through in the wrong order. She was even checked by the Children's dental hospital regarding her lack of teeth, but at 2y 9m they are almost all here.

She wasn't, and isn't, small for her age though so didn't look too young. Althiugh she did still look tiny walking adn chattering around

This is her at a year old . Hardly any hair and a big gummy grin!

Nimme · 12/01/2005 12:19

DD1 was like that. First tooth around 1 and hair followed very slowly. She has beautiful thick hair now though.

Do you all still find your toothless toddlers can eat anything and everything? I was amazed at what DD could manage with gums alone. Everyone who noticed she had no teeth asked me about how she manged to eat and whether I still had to puree. But I didn't . She had finger foods from 5 months and I remember her sitting, at 8 months, for Christmas dinner of fillet steak and all the trimmings - and managing the whole lot, all with not a single tooth in sight!

Lucycat · 12/01/2005 12:31

Make the most of it! You've only got to (try to!) clean them when they do get them and my DD2's curls are a nightmare to brush, she's only 20mths so I've got a lot more tears to come as well!

Beatie · 12/01/2005 12:45

Stupidly we delayed giving our dd lumos to chew and pureed her food for much too long. We are paying the price for that now I will know with the next one that even when they have a few teeth, they can bite things off with their hard gums.

I have to tell you, after 15 months of seeing it I really missed that gummy toothless smile.

joash · 12/01/2005 12:56

DD2 had no hair at all (not even little wisps) until around 18 months old and no teeth until 14 months. hated it when everyone called her a boy, although she did live in jeans and sweaters, even at that age.

nightowl · 12/01/2005 13:03

what a lovely picture hula! i would love to put a piccy of dd up here but a, dont know how and b, scared!! i get such funny stares when we are out. no hair, no teeth and tiny. people nearly drop when they see her standing up. sure they think im so cruel giving her a load of solid finger food to eat!

My ds had lots and lots of hair but no teeth at all. Don't worry - there are very few bald and toothless 20year olds!! It doesn't have any correlation to intelligence etc.

aloha · 15/01/2005 17:57

Oh and he wasn't walking either - or crawling. He can walk and has lots of teeth now he's three!

i know i am very late on adding to this thread.. wonder if any of you check it now? but THANK YOU! i have been so worried my dd has no teeth (and is one in 5 days!). All her friends do! and she has very fine hair, but she is so so blonde it looks less. She is also teeney tiny (not even 15lbs at one year!) I didnt knwo I was pregnant until I had her so did everything "bad" and "wrong" and some (B(*&H) mums suggest that this is why! however she does say mummy, woof at dogs, tweet at birds and blow kisses at men (clever!).Shes so little that like OP she looks silly standing. I love mumsnet for reassurance! thank you ladies! x
