Tiptoe walking

My 17 month old has started tip toe walking, she learnt to walk at 12 months and previously walked with both feet flat on the floor.
Has anyone else’s child randomly started tip toe walking and if so should I be concerned or do anything about it?

I think kids like to walk in different ways. I believe it’s only a concern if the majority of the time they walk is on tip toes.
My son is 20 months and will sometimes walk on tip toes for a bit. But it’s like 1% of the total walking he does in a day so it’s not a concern.
Just keep and eye on it for a few weeks, if you think she’s walking on tip toes majority of the time then chat to your HV. If you notice it’s just an occasional thing then no need to worry.

Encourage flat feet walking if you can and it might be worth getting checked over to make sure theres nothing causing the tiptoe walking such as tight /short tendons

I have walked on tiptoes since learning to walk. I have slightly hyper mobile joints and it's more comfortable being on my toes but longer term makes things worse. I have to make a conscious effort to walk flat footed and my knees and hips have been much less painful since starting pilates and I can walk more comfortably flat footed than I used to. My daughter copies me too as I have to try not to do it infront of her.

My mum took me to the Dr a couple of times about it and because I could physically walk properly but chose not too they weren't too worried. One of my friends is an occupational therapist and she winces when she sees me on my toes! I probably would have benefit from exercises to help strengthen my legs as a child rather than starting in my 30s!

My 16 month old does this too, I figure she is just exploring what her body can do. She seems to have great motor skills, amazing on her little bike and can jump with two feet off the ground and was an early walker. Unless your toddler wont walk normally ever I can’t imagine it’s a problem and just a development thing.

Tip toe walking is normal for toddlers. However if post 3 years old still the same, I suggest you see a doctor because it can be a sign of autism. My nephew has been diagnosed with autism and he has always walked on tipy toes since he was 2/3 years old.
