5 month old milestones

DD is 5.5 months and i'm really worried she's falling behind in her milestones.
She doesn't roll or make any attempt to roll. She hates tummy time so can't push up with her hands and does tummy time for max about 2 minutes before crying. She hasn't found her feet yet. She will sit up with support but doesn't lean forward or support herself with her hands.
Does this sound like she's delayed or is it normal?

How does your LO score on the 6 month Ages & Stages? Don't forget when you're filling it in that she had another 6 weeks or so till the end of the age range and as you know already, a lot can happen in 6 weeks Wink

Rach7291 · 24/11/2024 09:06

@TinyMouseTheatre what is that? I've never heard of that before?

If you click on the link in my post it will take you to the Ages & Stages questionnaire.

If you're in the UK, your HV might do some with you at different ages, usually the first is when they do the 12 month check Wink

@TinyMouseTheatre i've just had a look. She's behind on gross motor and personal-social.

Ok so how does she score overall? Is she in the grey for both of those sections or is she in the black?

Rach7291 · 24/11/2024 09:27

@TinyMouseTheatre she is just in the black for personal social and in the black for gross motor. I feel like i've failed her!

You've definitely not failed her.

You've noticed that she might need some support and you've bothered to come on here and ask about it.

That sounds like a good, motivated Mum who has her best interests at heart

You'll need to contact your HV and say that you've done the 6 month Ages & Stages and she's scoring in the Blavk in a couple of areas and that you need to see her.

I would also fill in the 6 month Social & Emotional Ages & Stages and take both of the completed forms with you when you see the HV.

Seeing both firms together should give your HV a better understanding of what's going on.

Hopefully she'll refer you to a Paediatrician. The very least I'd want is a referral to physio and a hearing test.

If the HV waves to adopt the "wait and see" approach, I would ask her for the hearing test and the physio referral anyway but also make sure she books the next appointment with you then and there if you can.

The next Ages & Stages is the 8 month one so if she does want to see her again before referring to a Paediatrician maybe ask her to see your DD again the week she turns 8 months.

You might want to ask the HV for a referral to Portage too although in some areas you can self refer Flowers

She may want you to meet her at the Clinic. It might be worth emailing her if you've got her email address as then at least you'll have a record of when you first contacted her Flowers

Hi @Rach7291 . May I ask how is your daughter now?

Rach7291 · 05/08/2025 16:04

@Yas1362 She’s good! She started rolling when she was 7 months. She is crawling, cruising and pulling to stand now. Isn’t walking yet but won’t be long. She can climb stairs aswell. It all happened very quickly once she started rolling. She’s 14 months now

Thanks for update. How great that she has progressed so much!😊
I see in the previous posts you have also mentioned that she is behind in that test for personal social! I did the test as well for my baby son and honestly it gave me anxiety! My son will be 5 months in a couple of days!
did your daughter improve in that area as well if I may ask?

Rach7291 · 05/08/2025 16:17

@Yas1362Yes she seems to be doing ok now. I remember her being the black because she didn’t put her feet in her mouth. But i can honestly say that everything i was so stressed about, i’m not now! They all do it in their own time. She was late to roll and didnt crawl until she was 11 months and i was so stressed!

Hey may I ask how your baby is doing now? Was she smiling and making eye contact at 5 months? Was she interested in you and in toys? Very worried about my baby

Rach7291 · 15/04/2026 06:38

@Worriedmama2fourShe’s all good! She was smiling, made eye contact, followed toys and looked at me etc. she’s 22 months now and a joy! what is worrying you?
