Oh bugger, I have always been a bit of a swearer under my breath.
But have just overheard DD 3 mutterring fucking child to her dolly
I know this is my fault and my parenting, but how do I react.
So far I have ignored it but will this encourage it ifyswim.
And what if it happens in public.

Now need to seriously address my language

"fiddlesticks" is another good replacement for "fuck".

Sounds a bit ridiculous coming from mouth of grown woman but very cute when coming from mouth of a 2 year old.

Altho, having said that I did find it cute when my DS was saying "fock, fock, fock" when he got frustrated. Is that weird? To find swearing in a toddler 'cute'??

am actually crying with laughter after reading this thread... will have to consider trying more verbal self control while driving before i hear 'buggery bollock's out of the mouth of my own ds...

shut up, stupid, cow (as in 'she's a right cow') etc were all banned in my house when i was young, let alone actual real swearing - and i LOVE swearing now. although i never swear in front of my mum, and that takes no effort. probably still scared stiff of her.

Thank god I'm not the only one pissing myself laughing.

Husband came home from work and asked what on earth I was finding so funny.

My mother never swore but is always keen to tell anyone who'll listen about the time when I was four and she stood outside the bathroom door listening to me on the loo saying 'bloody fucking mummy'. She doesn't even know what she'd done to upset me!

Recently heard ds1 who is 8 say 'Flipping heck' which although is not a swear word, I don;t like it coming from the mouth of a child so have asked him not to say it. I presume he has picked it up from school.

Although we are not at all religious, I dislike hearing children say 'Oh My God' and mine say 'Oh my gosh' or Oh my goodness', although I have heard them say 'Oh my God' on rare occasion and I have corrected them and told them it may also be offensive to people who belive in God and to respect that.

However, I swear in the car and am trying really hard not to. Ds's will actually tell me off for saying a bad word if I do swear in the car. IMO sadly children hear swearing a fair bit ie walking down the street they can hear other people swearing in conversation etc, so i just make sure they know it's not nice and not ok to repeat the words they may hear.

I remember once while driving and a woman was stood in the middle of a busy road with a child in a pushchair and another toddler by her side trying to croass when the pedestrain crossing was just close by - in my disbelief I muttered 'Stupid cow.' and ds1 asked 'Mummy, is there a farm near here?' I replied 'Err no. Why?' DS1 - 'Well, you said stupid cow, so I was looking for the cow that had escaped.' It was his way of telling me off

Last weekend, I told Dp that from this coming weekend there will be a swear box because the language has got to be curbed. I don't want my 16 month old coming out with FFS(but not in shorthand!)when she starts to make sensical words and visit grandma etc...hope it works, but I now have to find a very large box from somewhere as I'm sure Dp will fill it very quickly if it's only a small one!

My 9 yo, hates me swearing! but I once heard him say ' SHIT' when he splashed gravy on his shirt once. I asked him what he said and he lied and said ' shoot'...I laughed!

Update - I am doing very well and have managed to use all manner of terms -non expletive in the last few days.
ONly actually sworn 2-3 times all once the DC are in bed
Thank goodness the other days mutterings from DD have not been repeated.
NOw for the long haul
