At what age should a baby prefer to look at a face than lights/ceilings?

My baby will make eye contact and will do social smiles. He makes vowel noises and we also think there’s some very early turn taking with making sounds.

He also loves black and white / contrast colours, such as picture books, but also for example looking at windows when there’s a contrast between light and dark.

If he is in our arms, he will sometimes look at us but quite frankly most of the time he’s looking around at the contrast colours in the room.

At what age should he turn to look at our voice? And at what age should he be more interested with our faces rather than the colours and shapes in the environment?

Ours started to hone in on faces from 8 weeks but it took longer to crystallise, i can't remember how long though. I do recall making jokes about her staring at the monster on the ceiling though, who we couldn't see (like that horror film Insidious)!

Thank you. It’s very odd because when there is no background distraction he will look at us, but if we’re in a bright or shadowed room then he would rather look beyond us to that, it’s a bit disconcerting?
