has quite an obvious speech delay, we hoped by now he would have caught up but he hasn’t. At home we have been working hard with his speech and he has made progress but it’s slow and at this rate I think the gap isn’t actually getting any smaller in his delay.
we have been referred for speech therapy in June but we haven’t heard anything about an appointment yet, I’ve chased but they can’t tell me when, just that he is on the waiting list.
in conjunction with his speech delay, we are quite convinced at this stage that an autistic diagnosis might be on the horizon. he has several red flags alongside his speech delay.
I’m really aware that waiting lists etc are very long, which is scary. He starts school this September, birthday 31st August. I just want him to flourish, for school to be a positive experience for him.
what can I do now, at home to support his development? Those that are way more knowledgeable on this subject, what should I be reading? His potty trained at home not at nursery yet, his social and communications skills are about 1 year in delay.
