my ds whines,continually,3+1/2,what will i do? driving me nuts

he whines to everything, give him his cereal, thats too much or i didnt want milk,
get him to put his sweater on, why didnt you do that earlier or i dont want to wear that one
or
goes to give me a hug to say sorry but then bends me over , hurts me in some manner, and proceeds to land himself on the floor.

he's not indulged, treats are rewards for good behaviour, have a star chart, when i take something away for his "bold" behavioiur (i know some dont like to call it that), i follow thru, but it just repeats itself all over with him.

he whines the instant he gets up...its funny on one hand but dementing on the other....

"I'm sorry, I can't understand you when you talk in that voice. Take a deep breath and try again."

Works -- a bit...

My stock phrase for dealing with this phase was 'I am sorry but I cannot understand a word you are saying when you use that voice' and then busied myself with something else. Child only got things if asked for in a normal pleasant manner.

Also let them know that they should tell me what they did want rather than what they didn't - so making them speak more positively.

It really was quite effective - they got the message very quickly that whining would not get them anything at all

Again no advice. Mine are 3.5 and just 5 and seem to compete with each other in the whinging. It starts at 7.30 when they get up and conitunes unabated till 7.30 at night. When DD(5) goes to school the volume drops a little. Today though they both at school and preschool and I am chilling - no telly, just total silence.

Hang in there - I used to think a newborns cry was the most grating sound in the world till I had two toddlers. Wait till bedtime and have a huge glass of wine.

DS was a bit like this. We have taught him about tone of voice.

Also, I asked him about a hundred questions while making breakfast so he couldn't say I did it the wrong way. Not everyone's that talkative in the morning but for me it was easier to handle than than the whining!

He now either makes it himself (he's 5) or gives instructions like when you go out for a meal in the USA (I'd like one weetabix in a blue bowl with milk and a dollop of jam but not the apricot one, the red one, and I'd like to put on the jam myself and then lick the spoon please).
