We have had a guest staying at our house for almost a week now. He is my uncle and very friendly, calm, quiet and pleasant. My 3yo who is very shy and dislikes strangers is having a difficult time.
Son does not go near him, doesn’t enter the same room he’s in, says he’s shy and doesn’t want to talk to or play with or share anything with him. He hides his face with toys when uncle talks to him and squints his eyes so he can’t see him, but the whole time he is smiling and giggling. Uncle is friendly, engages him but doesn’t push.
Not really sure what to do to help my son through this? It’s awkward as a parent and I wish he didn't feel so uncomfortable. When he does feel uncomfortable about something it’s impossible to get him to try it. Son says he’s terrified but he's not had any meltdowns which is an improvement from how he was before.
