No one can understand my three year old

Hi everyone
I have a 3 year little boy and no one except me can understand his speech, even his dad and grandparents struggle.
He is on the waiting list for speech therapy but I'm getting worried and wondered if anyone was in the same boat? I have to say his speech is improving slowly and he is starting to string long sentences together and sing songs etc, it's just really hard to understand what hes actually saying, for example he says "ar" for star, its like he misses a lot of the word out.
Admittedly he has had a dummy and looking back there were probably a lot of circumstances were he didn't need one but still had it in his mouth.
If anyone can give any advise I'd really appreciate it.
From a worried mamma!

Can you get rid of the dummy @Melissax90? If not at night at least for the day?

Is he on the waiting list for a hearing test too?

@PolaroidPrincess yes the dummy has gone to nighttime only. And the nursery only mentioned speech when they referred him so I don't think he's on the waiting list for hearing as well, I've never had any concern about his hearing but I might mention it to be safe.

It's worth getting a hearing test, just to rule out Glue Ear and it will definitely help the SLT to try and determine what's going on.

Your HV can refer him or in some areas you can self refer for a hearing test.

Is he just 3 @Melissax90?

@PolaroidPrincess he turned 3 in June, his speech is definitely improving but he's still quite hard to understand
