Thumb-sucking

How to stop a 4-yr-old sucking his thumb? 8-yr-old DD has only just stopped sucking her thumb at night after being told by dentist it was damaging her teeth! (She apparently has something called an 'open bite' which will need correcting when she's about 11 - I feel awful about it). Am now really worried same will happen to DS - he only sucks his when he is tired and at bedtime, but objects when I suggest he stop. Any tips/advice, please?

Sorry dc didn't suck their thumbs so can't help but I still suck mine and I'm 36!

p.s. Do not have sticky out teeth either.

oh I have the same problem
my ds is 4 and the dentist said he might have an overbite later on
but I think it would be really hard to stop him from sucking his thumb, the only thing i can think of is to paint the thumb nail with that horrid stuff people use to stop nail biting

Yep, I used that very same 'No Bite' nail stuff on dd - only needed 2 'doses' to make her stop but then she is 8 and wanted to stop, unlike her little brother - and I think I'd feel a bit cruel putting that stuff on him at the mo...
