Concerned for my toddler

Hi, new to this forum so bare with!
I'm just looking for some advice regarding my son. He's 21 months (will be 2 end of December). Lately his tantrums have become more regular and harder to deal with. I expected this of course. But this evening as we were finishing up tea, he said "play" so I said I needed to clean his face and hands first then play. This is when he started to get upset. I went to get him as I'd finished cleaning his face but he said no like he wanted to stay where he was at the table. So I left him and said ok then and let him have his moment but he was getting so upset and worked up that he was sick. I had to remove him and clean it up while his dad tried calming him down. We went into the living room and he got even more worked up, crying, screaming, saying no, hitting me. I stayed calm, offered him a cuddle. This carried on for maybe 10 minutes and in the end I think he wanted to go back in the kitchen to finish his yoghurt but couldn't get his words out as he was so upset. I got upset too (I really try my best to keep it in but it's hard) I was just so worried not knowing what he wanted and that he was sick aswell.
Was he sick because he was so worked up? I'm annoyed because I kind of shut down a bit as he was hitting. I was saying no you don't hit but I felt at complete loss and out of my depth during it.
He was fine afterwards.
Any advice or tips welcome.
Thanks 😊

It's all quite normal. The classic toddler tantrum of 'I don't know what I want'...don't want to get down/don't want to stay up etc. if it was tea time, he was probably a bit tired too which always makes it worse. If it becomes a regular occurrence have tea a bit earlier to avoid the witching hour.
