Hello, I’m wondering if I’m worrying over nothing at the moment but l, I have a 14 month old baby boy who isn’t yet pointing at things of interest.
He can crawl, stand on his own (close to first steps) and he babbles away. He showed you he’s excited or that he’s happy with what you’re giving him by holding out both of his arms and waving them. He can almost wave when he wants to but will mainly resort to his “both arms happy dance” as me and nursery now call it. His nursery don’t have concerns and say that a new guideline is in place where pointing and waving are not considered milestones in their own right anymore and as long as he’s communicating in his own way, it’s fine. Has anyone else heard this? He says the odd word copying but we will only hear it once for twice and then just back to babbling and he doesn’t say it again. The words he says all the time are “mamma” “dadda” “daddy” “Duggee” (Hey Duggee) and he’ll sometimes say “hi” or “yeah” if you ask him something. He’ll look at something he wants and wave his arms if he wants you to give it to him, does this count? He’ll also sometimes show you with one hand but with an open palm? I see all other babies his age pointing properly and doing it more often and I worry he’s not doing the same. I worry incase it’s a sign of a learning difficulty later on (thanks for scaring me Google!!) because if that was the case, I would want to know at an early age so I can support him sooner.
Does this ring similar to anyone else’s baby this age? The lack of pointing properly is just really worrying me. He’s also great with eye contact and is very cuddly, engaging and will play games like putting cars on a ramp and watch them roll down and laugh.
thank you
