My youngest turned 4 in March.
She's always been quite baby ish and young for her age (I think).
She can be quite hard to understand, and I've recently noticed that a lot of the time, she makes absolutely no sense. She can't find words so will describe things in a different way e.g we had some Halloween cakes. She came to me and asked for Christmas rolls instead of Halloween cakes.
She generally seems confused a lot. She's very much in her own world, and I have to call her name around 5 times before she responds (nothing wrong with her hearing). If I ask her a question, she will often waffle on about something else. I have to ask the question quite a few times before she focuses and actually responds.
She attends a Welsh school (we don't speak Welsh at home), but I've said a few very basic sentences to her, or asked her simple words in Welsh and she doesn't know them. She just seems like she's on a different planet most of the time. I am also a bit like this, so appreciate it could be a sort of learned behaviour!!
Does this sound normal for a 4 year old? I'm tempted to email her teacher to see if this is normal behaviour but thought I'd ask here first. There's every chance this is totally normal, but my eldest was speaking so coherently by age 2 and understood everything so the difference is quite apparent.
