Calpol for tired children

Hello..
So please tell me I'm not losing it..

Every time my kids are tired, my inlaws bang on about giving them calpol before they sleep so they get a good night's sleep.... (I mean wouldn't they anyway if they're tired!)
I never listen. I don't agree.

Then yesterday I heard my sister in law say she's going to give her little one calpol. He was running around and seemed tired from it. And I responded with is he not well?

Because surely you can't just give calpol to children who are tired and no illness???

You are definitely in the right here. Of course you shouldn’t give Calpol unless they are unwell or in pain.

I've only heard of one person doing this and their child now will not sleep without calpol. They have to give it every night or the child won't sleep.. Definitely not healthy, it is paracetamol and we don't just take paracetamol to fall asleep. It could potentially cause organ damage as they are only supposed to be used short term for pain and illness.
I'd imagine they'd also build a tolerance so when they actually really need it for pain it may not work.
