How normal is this? It is a bit vile. Don't want to be too heavy handed but he needs to learn!

Its very normal for boys! Does he just put hand down and chill or is he playing with it?

Thanks frazzled, muchos playing! It seems normal and he doesn't really do it in public it seems like a comfort thing. It's worse with pj bottoms on of course. I don't think he's aware of doing it.
Also permanently while watching tv unless we ask him to stop it. I try not to be too harsh, I just say it's private and not particularly nice for anyone else!

Ds hand is very rarely out of his trousers.

i dont think he is playing with himself in any sexualised way...think he is just keeping his hand warm or something.

perfectly normal but a bit grim when he then attempts to eat his lunch without washing his hands [we need an eurgh smiley]

ipanemagirl · 21/04/2008 11:50

Thanks mildmannered. I think we do just have to say enough mate that's for your own private time!

ds2 aged 3 sit holding his! When ds1 was young(now 14), I told him it wasn't nice for others to see his hand there, I bet he'd think I would look odd if i put my hands down my pants! Politely asked if he'd try not to do it as much. It worked, i think its just an inbuilt male thing!

frazzledbutcalm · 21/04/2008 11:57

Was meant to say ds2 aged 3 sits watching tv holding his!

mummyjaguar · 21/04/2008 12:00

Very normal I think. DS1 is 3 and constantly has his hand down there.

The other day he said "mummy I like my winkle it makes me happy"

Dh looked up from his paper and said "You'll find that feeling lasts a lifetime son"

frazzledbutcalm · 21/04/2008 12:03

lol mummyj!

ipanemagirl · 21/04/2008 13:34

gosh it is normal. We went to see ds1 in a performance on friday and all he did was mess with his penis and pull up his trousers....mind you all the other boys were the same

we just tell him to stop it tbh when we are out and about. My gran thinks if you dont do this they will carry on doing it when they are an adult

ipanemagirl · 21/04/2008 13:45

But these sound like younger lads, my ds is 7!!

DD is seven and she alwats fiddles with her bits, it's normal for both genders. Don't worry.
