My children won't listen

Any tips of how to make my children listen to me. It doesn't matter if I speak calmly 50 times, if I explained why, if I bribe them or if I tell them will be a consequence and I do it. The only way my children do something straight away is if I shout and I'm so tired of shouting, I don't like this person I have become :(. What bothers me is that my children listen very attentive and nicely to other adults. I'm so angry of constantly asking for things nicely and that the only time they do them is when I lost it. Please any advice?

I know exactly the feeling, constantly thinking have I got parenting all wrong, is it me, am I a horrible person or is there something wrong with my child. My child is a star pupil, top of their class and is interviewing for his primary schools head boy position. Not teacher will ever have a bad word to say about him but at home it is a shit show.

I have absolutely not advice, I was coming here to get some. You have all my sympathy.

Oh my god. I could have written this about my 5 and 8 year old.

They can be lovely and they absolutely CAN do as their told sometimes (and are both almost universally beautifully behaved at school and for other adults by all accounts)... but they also can both be absolutely awful and refuse to listen/do what they're asked.

I have become the shouty mum I never wanted to be.

I try to model calm behaviour... But they just constantly push me to the edge.

They're both better individually than together too I have noticed.

No advice but solidarity!
