My 2.10 year old has previously gone through the dreaded hitting phase which we thought had ended. But at childcare he does tend to become pushy if tired which they are aware of and can distract him however upon pick up, he seems to get extremely excited that I’m there and will randomly hit or push another child. He is always told off for this, sent direct to the door to wait without attention, I have tried ignoring it and not talking about it but it’s constantly happening. Childcare say its a result of being tired as he’s not napping whilst there anymore but he doesn’t do anything like this during the day, it is only when I arrive to collect him!
We are about to try a rewards chart to help him focus on being kind whilst I’m there but I just feel at a loss of what else to do. Even when he is about to do it, we intervene and remove him but he still tries to do it.
I know this is learnt behaviour as I have seen older children at his day care do exactly what he is doing and they get told off etc and he will tell you it’s not kind but just seems to lose control when it comes to the end of the day. They tell me he plays so well all day and is really kind towards other children but not when I’m there. we have his birthday party coming up with children from day care attending and I’m anxious on how his behaviour will be.
does anyone have any experience or advice around this they can offer?
