Sleep is awful since starting nursery, help!

My 13 month old started nursery 2 weeks ago. She is going 2 full days a week, and now her sleep is suddenly terrible!

She has been sleeping amazingly since 8 months, we would put her in her cot at naptimes / bedtime and she would happily coo to herself until she fell asleep, also sleeping through the night.

Now she screams when we put her in her cot, throws her dummies out as she knows we will need to go in to pick them up, she will sometimes stop crying when we cuddle her but will start again as soon as we try to lay her back down. She is waking through the night, screaming and not self settling back to sleep so I am needing to either cuddle/bring to my bed until she calms down.

At nursery they lay her down on a mat with other children all around and pat her/stroke her to settle her to sleep otherwise she just gets up, so I think she is very confused and has forgotten how to sleep normally at home.

I'm pregnant again and due in 2 months! I'm panicking that I am going to be up with them both, and feel terrible that she was so happy before starting nursery. I am going to be on maternity leave again in a few weeks, my plan was to keep her going to nursery for the 2 days so I could have some calm time during the week with the new baby, but I'm thinking maybe I should take her out of nursery. It has only been 2 weeks, did this happen to anyone else and their baby eventually settled at home again?

Just giving your post a hopeful bump Flowers

I know this is an old post, but as it got Jo replies...

We're currently going through the same. Ours is 23 months and started nursery 2 and a half weeks ago, 2 full days a week. Her sleep has been horrendous since. She's either awake for 2/3 hours in the middle of the night or we're starting our day at 4am.

It doesn't seem to matter what time she goes to bed or what time her naps are or how long, it's the same nearly every night

I'm sorry I've got no advice for you but you're not alone.

I'm hoping it's just a phase and she'll settle again.

Has your LO's sleep gone back to normal?

@Blissfultiggy sorry you are struggling too! We stuck with it and luckily she has totally settled, thank god! She actually loves going now. She has some off nights of sleep at home still, but mostly back to sleeping through the night and napping normally here. I think she has realised the difference between nursery and home now, so all seems to be going smoothly.
It's such a relief, I was so close to just taking her out in those first few weeks. But I am glad we stuck with it as she seems to really enjoy her days there.
Hope things settle for you too! 🤞🏼
