I don't know if I'm being overly sensitive or it's my inexperience but my 2 year old (my only child) is getting really handsy at nursery and will sometimes scratch, hit or kick other children when playing.

We've tried lots of different games we play with her to teach her about kind hands, sharing, taking turns or being gentle but it hasn't really seemed to work.

I know she's only 2, and she's got a long road ahead of her...but is this normal? I seem to think everyone else's children are really well behaved at nursery because no one else mentions these incidents.

Basically am I doing something wrong, I feel like I'm a really rubbish mum.

I doubt you're doing anything wrong OP.

What have Nursery suggested?

At two, very normal, although very hard for the parents on both sides! My second is two, and over the summer nursery have had one child go through a bad biting phase and another who was scratching.

What are nursery doing about it? Are they logging when it happens and over what? E.g., if certainly toys are hotly contested or if it's more likely just before lunch when she's hungry and getting tired, they can have someone hovering over her to intervene at those flashpoints if necessary. There isn't always a clear pattern though.

Does she ever hit/kick/scratch with you? Or with other children at the play park or soft play?
