My DS is 2y 3m and shows very little interest in pretend play. He occasionally picks up a phone and holds it to his ear, or hold a bottle to a doll’s mouth or slings the doll over his shoulder and pat its back, but that’s the extent of it.
He is much more interested in anything that moves; cars, diggers, transporters, helicopters etc, or construction toys, or just running around the garden throwing himself down the slide. Most of the time the dolly gets thrown out of the pram and he just frantically wheels the pram round the house/garden.
Everyone tells me this is typical ‘boys’ behaviour but I’m just concerned that he isn’t engaged enough with pretend play despite me trying to encourage him to play with his kitchen/Bluey house. He also is behind with his speech and we are seeing a private speech therapist and I can’t help but think the two are linked? When did your toddler start to be interested in pretend play?
