1 year old still not eating

Hi,
My baby is 1 and so far as I know, developing normally. We started him on solids at 6 months, with the baby led weaning method. He would enthusiastically put food into his mouth, but he just spits it all back out again.
By 9 months he was still barely eating anything so we switched to purées, which he would swallow but he preferred a breast feed.
Now he's 12 months and it's hit and miss as to whether he'll take a purée. He'll put solid food in his mouth, he insists on trying some of our food from our plates which I thought was encouraging. But he just does not seem able to swallow it. I see my friends babies taking sandwiches and trying to stuff them into their mouths, mine just will not swallow solid food.
Can anyone help with where I'm going wrong? Hopefully he's getting enough calories from breast feeding and he seems happy and energetic, I'm just worried that I'm setting him up for a lifetime of food issues. HV was a bit useless when I asked her advice.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong at all. What are his nappies like? Sometimes you don't think they're eating much but the nappies can usually confirm that actually they are Wink

Hopefully he's getting enough calories from breast feeding and he seems happy and energetic,

Is he following his height and weight centile OP and are you giving him a daily vitamin supplementt*?

Just wondering too if he's night weaned?

I think by that age I'd got DC1 down to a BF in the morning, one before his nap and one before bed.

I'd also do this simple SLT progress checker. If it says that he needs some support, come back and let us know Wink

Thankyou so much for such a detailed response.
Hmm. Nappies certainly aren't like the breast feeding nappies but they're also not solid which I think should be the case by now.
He's always been bang on the 50th centile, I weighed him this morning at home just to check and even if our home scales are out he's still in that region.
He's not night weaned no, do you think he might be avoiding food in preference for breastfeeds?
He's been doing some settling sessions at nursery and they're convinced they can get him eating (it's to be hoped they can as I am useless at pumping).
I did the questionnaire that you suggested it did say that he might need extra support, it seemed to be the communication elements where he was behind. Though it also highlighted that maybe I am not playing quite the right games with him as I genuinely didn't know the answers to some of the questions and I've been trying them with him the past couple of days. @PolaroidPrincess

Ok so if it says that he needs some support you can book a free appointment with one of the SLTs at Talking Point. I would mention the eating too.

Are you due the 12 month check with the HV soon?

And yes, I'd try a bit of gentle night weaning to try and encourage him to get some extra calories in during the day Wink
