Extreme separation anxiety and sleep. HELP!

Hi all. LB is 19m old and we seem to be going through what I assume is separation anxiety in a big way. The last month or so he has become extra clingy. Wants me to pick him up all the time and cries or has a melt down when I tell him no, for example when i’m making tea. But the last week has been unreal. He is usually a good sleeper and now it’s multiple times in the night, sometimes every hour or so he’s waking up crying and hysterical. We have a mattress next to his cot
so we can lie in his room if we need to but some nights even that doesn’t work for him. Were both exhausted from not sleeping and dealing with the constant crying and whinging. Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this or what might help him. this is making me really sad as I don’t want to
leave him crying but it’s starting to impact my mental health and my patience.
