Hlw I have a toddler will be 2 years old within 7 days. He does say some words and one sentence "what's that" but seems like he cant understand those words he just says cause we keep telling him those. Only few words he understand like car pig duck . He can say mama dada but he doesn't call us just seems like he doesn't have any idea what is mama dada. He response to.his name very inconsistently. He makes eye contact when we sing for him tell him ryhms . He doesn't point but pulls us what he wants. Apart from u want to eat shower time playtime sleep time he doesn't understand any of our commands. We book appointment bt it's on Tuesday and I am dieing in stress. All the researches I made the result indicates autism. Will my son grow out of it or it's autism and we have to live with this and he will never call us mama dada

I've had one with speech delay and yes, they do have ASD and sine struggles but they're clever, funny and have a good job.

I know it's worrying but you're doing the right thing in getting him checked out.

Is the appointment with a Paediatrician?

ThisNeedyHedgehog · 17/08/2024 06:57

Yes on Tuesday with paediatrician and on 2nd September with psychologist. Will he ever talk will I ever hear mama from him? What will be our life I am scared to death

Ok so before the appointment on Tuesday I'd fill in both the 2 year Ages & Stages and the 2 year Social & Emotional Ages & Stages.

I'd also ask your Paediatrician about arranging a hearing test as sometimes Glue Ear can cause speech delay.

Maybe also ask the Paediatrician what support is available as you sound very worried Flowers

My DS is 2.5 and he understands most things and as great eye contact and just recently the last 5 weeks started to look at me and his daddy when we say his name but he doesn't say much at all...

Mum mum
Sometimes daddy and he's started to say I did it but that's it

We have been on the waiting list for a hearing test with the audiology department since 21st March and I rang up the other day and they said we still have about 2 more months to wait..we also have a speech therapy end of September

HV says she does see autistic traits in him but because he's still very young it's hard to separate them to either autism or just his age

I hope your little one is ok..good luck..but the waiting list for the NHS is so long...I was told speech therapy you only get 1 video call and have to wait 18 months after that so me and my partner are considering private speech sessions for him

@Londongirl8922 is there a local group for DC with speech delay that your HV can refer you to?
