My 9 month old DD2 second day at childminder - it will get better won't it...

I just wanted some reassurance that it will get better for DD2. Yesterday was her first day when I returned to work after 9 months. She has been quite clingy with me lately so I was expecting the worse but she was actually ok. Today, she seems to be crying more, not eating much, as if she is more aware of the situation and not liking it. My childminder also has my DD1 so she is not alone and she is a brilliant carer so I have no worries with how she looks after them.

My DD1 was with her from 9 months - 3yrs when I went on maternity leave so I know it will be fine but DD2 is more temperamently than DD1 and has more quite a difficult baby to look after which is why I worry more about her. Do you think she will be ok after a few weeks. She is only with her 2 days a week and their grandparents will be looking after them for the third day I am at work.

My childminder just phoned and I could hear DD2 crying in the background and I am sitting here at work feeling really guilty.

It is quite usual for the second and third day to be worse - as they soon realise that they are going back to 'that place whre you left me' and cry.... my dd was fine but she went at 6 months, my ds started at his CM in January and it took over a week for him to settle properly, and even now, he still has a little cry when I hand him over - guilt trip! He doesnt do it for dad!!1

It will get better, and it is even better that your first child went there, as you know she does a good job - just proves all kiddies are different. As long as the CM is ok with it, then dont worry - and dont call her from work as it is more upsetting to hear your child crying when you cant comfort them.
