A little advice please

So I just wanted to get some advice on getting my 4 month old to practice rolling. She hates tummy time, I've tried distracting her with toys, with me, with screens etc so that she'll get used to it. I've tried the water mat as well but she'll be on her belly for about 2 minutes then start crying.

I think she gets frustrated because she can't move and I try to tuck in her elbows to help her roll, but she almost immediately sticks out her arms and it looks like she's trying to swim.

At 5 weeks old, she actually rolled from her belly to her back. But since then has only done that a couple of times but now it seems like she can't do it anymore?

I've tried to bend her legs and get her to hold her feet so she can roll, I've rolled up a little blanket to put under her legs to help her as well but nothing seems to be working.

Any advice? Should I be worried? Or do babies generally just figure it out themselves in their own time?

If she doesn't like tummy time could you try lying on the floor and lying her on your chest? Taking them swimming usually helps to strengthen their muscles too Wink

I've tried laying her on my chest. Again she just starts crying because she can't move much.

I will try swimming and see if she's comfortable with that. Thank you!

My LO is nearly 6 months old. Like you I worried she was not rolling, or did it randomly but never consistently and other babies were. I shouldn’t have worried because she did start rolling tummy to back a couple weeks ago and now does it all the time! I would say relax into it and trust that she will get there. The average is 6 months. Mine is yet to roll the other way but that’s fine as she’s showing signs of getting there.

In terms of tummy time, perhaps think about more frequency rather than length. If she only wants to do 2 mins that’s fine just do it more frequently. You can also put her on your chest as a form of tummy time!
