Kid behaviour in daycare

Hi all, I am a mom of an almost 2 yo boy. He has been in daycare from the time he was 5 mo but the previous daycare was not a great fit for him: he is what you would call a "high needs kid", loud, attention seeking and with a strong personality. We had to pull him out of that daycare and found another one where he's doing better. He's happy to go, they have a lots of activities and he's learning constantly, not only games but also behaviourally. They send us videos often, but they have mentioned (and we can see from the videos) that many times our kid rather watches what other kids are doing, instead of really playing. For example, he might be doing a puzzle, but other kids would be doing other puzzles and he stops mid activity and keeps watching what they do. I don't see other kids doing that, they are busy with their own activities... This also happens in the park, or whenever there are more kids around: he'll stay out and watches and observes, forgetting his own game. I was just wondering if this is something common? Sometimes I wish he would just play like the other kids...

Can you explain why this worries you? Are the daycare concerned about it? Kids learn a lot from watching others - I see it all the time in my DC and their peers. I wouldn't see it as something concerning unless there's more to it than you said.
