Formula Milk Tastes Bitter

... My DS2 seemed to be off his milk, so I tasted it. It tasted VERY bitter and chemical-ridden. It's Aptimil Easy Digest.

I want to know: does it always taste like that? I've never tasted it before, but this stuff is bitter like grapefruit juice and clings to your lips.

My DH has made a midnight flit to the chemist to buy a new packet in case it's off (tho I only opened it on Monday and it's BB date is 2009).

Has anyone ever noticed this horrible taste?

DH is back with a box of the normal Aptimil and that tastes nice. Malty-sweet. The Easy Digest one tastes, no lie, like it's been poisoned.

Imagine someone slips 200 aspirin into your Horlicks -- exactly like that.

Earlier this week. I know, it's scarily hideous!

He loved the normal new milk last night, drank the whole lot.

hi beautiful i once used the farleys easy digest one and that tasted the same and i rang farleys and they said it was supposed to taste like that i swiftly changed cos my lo and i did not like it

Only ever tasted SMA Gold and that was truly grim. So I suspect they are all like that.

No - you're right. The Easy Digest milks are SUPPOSED to taste vile, believe it or not. It's got something in it that helps break down the lactose or something and that gives it that horrible taste. I tried my DS on it when he was struggling to digest and altho he didn't mind the taste I just couldn't bear to give him something that tasted so WRONG - so I put him back on the normal stuff very quickly. Also, don't know if you've noticed but the poos on easy digest milk are also digustingly green and smelly. Very off-putting!

Most formula milk tastes very similar to breast milk (ie. sweet and yummy) and results in fairly non-smelly yellow poo.

Anyway, the easy digest is perfectly safe. It's just disgusting! An

Doesn't sound right to me. I always found formula tastes quite sweet and creamy.

MrsMattie, like I said above, most formula milk IS sweet and tasty.
Easy Digest and Comfort milks are NOT, because they have special (gross tasting) components that break down the lactose, which makes it easier to digest...

We tried Cow and Gate comfort milk when ds was about 8 weeks old. That tasted just as you described, it was bitter and left a horrible taste in your mouth- kind of how I imagine purfume would taste! Yuk! Put him back on Farley's First Milk and that tastes creamy (sickly!) but ds likes it.

Yeah, we were rather shocked too. Wierdly, ds didn't seem to mind it but he is strange! We changed him back to Farley's cos the Comfort Stuff didn't help his tummy and actually made him throw up a bit more- not suprising given the taste of the stuff. It really was awful! I mean the Farleys stuff isn't what I would call nice but at least it's not bitter and pufumey tasting!
