My little boy is one year old and can only use one hand at a time when playing. He can use both hands independently to play although has got a “stronger” hand of which he prefers. He will be playing with one hand, and then the other hand he will always hold up at the height as if he was wearing a sling, with his hand always in a very odd position a bit like ‘tip the waiter’. He rests in the pushchair etc with his hands tucked under in that position too. No matter how much encouragement, he cannot hold two toys at once one hand will always drop an item when the other is holding an item. He can pick up a large toy with two hands such as a book or a water bottle it’s more then when trying to manipulate objects he only uses one.
He also currently does not yet wave, clap, point, bang toys together or mimic. He is under speech and language therapy and has suspected dysphagia and his oral skills are very behind when eating as well as other specialists for GORD, laryngomalacia and overall paediatrics. However he can crawl, and uses both hands when crawling.
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? He’s got his two month physio review Wednesday and we are under all the right people but a consultant mentioned potentially needing an MRI and of course now I’m spiralling over it.
I’d love to hear other people’s experiences on this or whether or not you’d be concerned if it was your little one.
