Behaviour change 18 month old

I know I am definitely not the only parent in the world that has gone through this, but I am pulling my hair out…
My little boy is 18 months old in a couple of weeks and has always been the easiest, happiest little boy. For the last month it’s like he’s had a personality change! He’s winging all the time, throws a tantrum every time something doesn’t go his way, definitely doesn’t understand the word no. He’s hitting, throwing things at us and just pushing every button I have. He’s trying to communicate with me but I have absolutely no idea what he’s asking for. Going out in public has become a massive effort as it’s like he’s just not happy doing anything so I’m now reluctant to go anywhere that isn’t just an open field he can run riot.
Does anyone have any tips/advice? Is this just a phase? Help a mama out! Thank you for reading.
