13 week old baby , tummy time

Hi

My daughter is 13 weeks old and when doing tummy time, can not lift her head up off the mat. She is EBF and my midwife said EBF babies don't need to do tummy time because they use their neck muscles when feeding. When you lift her up and hold her, she can hold her head up and look around. You don't need to support her head when you pick her up either, she just can't lift if on her tummy.

Has anyone else experienced this with their baby? My first was doing it loads by now

Thank you

Tummy time is more for babies to build up the big muscles of torso/core so they'll be able to sit up by themselves, crawl and walk. Just to say I don't really agree with your midwife!!!

There are lots of different ways of doing tummy time. It might be easier for your baby to start floor tummy time with a rolled up cellular blanket/ small towel underneath their armpits. Otherwise, tummy time on your lap/ airplane game with your arms supporting LO etc can all help build up tummy time.
