When ds is really upset he asks for a drink of water....is that weird?

It's in an open cup so not a sucking for comfort thing.

Don't think it's wierd. Most children have something to comfort them like a teddy or blanket or dummy. Maybe your ds has just come to assosciate a drink of water with feeling better after an upset. Sort of like adults with a cup of tea or a glass of wine! Sounds fine to me!

I suppose so but I'd be asking for chocolate if I were him?

I have to say it's an improvement on pushing and pinching me which is what he was doing before this started!

Does he go to nursery? DS's nursery often get them to sit down and have some sips of water to help them calm down after getting worked up or a fall/injury etc.

yes he does....good point.

my ds likes to bf when he is upset or hurt himself

MNersanonymous · 07/04/2008 22:21

I can understand bf as that involves sucking which is comforting whereas drinking from an open cup isn't the same.

I think Comeoveneer's explanation must be it.
