DS a devil for me but good for DH

My DS (5) has turned into a stroppy teenager with me but not with his dad. He seems to question everything I ask him to do which eventually ends in an argument. He'll wine (sp) and moan and even stamp his feet over the most simple of tasks (brushing teeth, putting shoes away). He just seems to have this built in mechanism that makes him refuse to do anything I ask him.

I've sat him down and asked why he does this with me and not his dad and he says its because "dad gets angrier than you" which isn't true. DH has never had to get to the point where he ends up feeling like a screaming banshee!! One word from him and he does what he's told!!

Beginning to feel like a bad mother! Worried that he's just going to get worse and worse and by the time he's a teenager I'll just have no control over him!!

I have a difficult DS (almost 7) and have regular stand-offs with DD1 (5) and DD2 (2)!!!

Last week a book was recommended on here which we got and we have found it very good. It's called 'How to Talk so Kids will Listen and Listen so Kids will Talk' by Alele Faber and Elaine Mazlish. I certainly second the recommendation. HTH
