Hi everyone, thanks so much for taking the time to read this. My DD is 9 and we're just really struggling with her behaviour. In the household there is dh, me and dd, no siblings. DD is just sooo incredibly emotional all the time. She cries at least once every single day (I can't remember last time we didn't have any tears), a mix of tantrums, meltdowns and heartfelt tears. She has always been like this really but it just seems to be getting worse. I know that she's at the age of pre-puberty and that these issues could even be an indication that she could start her periods soon. But I can't help thinking it's more than that. I have felt really reluctant to give in to the whole neuro divergent thing but now I'm not so sure. Traits are that she is very impatient and wants everything instantly, and also no matter how many times we tell her, she just doesn't seem to understand when she is interrupting people. She always and I mean ALWAYS interrupts my conversations and it drives me up the wall. I've tried sitting her down to talk about it calmly and I've shouted at her and she simply just doesn't get the message. She also really, really struggles to calm herself down when she's upset. It's as if it's mandatory to have a good 20-30 mins cry. She's had all of these traits all of her life. It's probably worth mentioning that she was born prematurely (29 weeks) and when she was discharged from the paediatrician (when she was a baby), they said everything seems fine but premature babies can have some learning difficulties when they start school. Her learning seems to be fine at school and she is really bright and friendly and has friends. Her best friend is an autistic boy, not sure if this suggests anything? So is it just normal pre-puberty hormones or do you think she might have ADHD or something? Thanks so much xx
