Do your children always call you mummy/mama etc..?

My ds (2.3) has started calling me by my first name.
I assuming he's just copying his father, and testing out his (limited) language skills, but it sounds odd and I feel a bit rejected, almost. Silly, I know.

Anyone else's little one doing/done something similar?

Yes, DD2 used to call me Taffy at about the same age and her dad by his first name too. He didn't like it - I thought it was hilarious. She also called my dad 'John!' in exactly the same tone my mum uses - also hilarious. Think is is a phase.

DS would call both dh and I Mummydaddy for a while

Now normally calls me Mummy, or Mum (least preferred) or Mumma which I quite like. DH definitely Daddy.

this morning I have been called - cuban, kai, ethan, jamie-lou, leanne, and a variety of dinosaur names - in facct it feels like weeks since DS has called me Mummy!

Oh pop that's so sweet! Hoping we won't have this problem as we just call eachother mummy and daddy too. Wierd, but it is just habbit now (only if ds is with us obviously, not jus for fun!)

My friend at school always called his mum and dad by their first names but that was their choice, they never wanted to be called mummy or daddy. I must admit I always found it strange but I don't know why really. I never call my dad 'dad', I call him a nickname which me and my siblings have called him for years. Mind you, he hates it and sometimes refuses to answer but that just makes it more fun!

I think it's a phase. Don't feel rejected, he knows you're his mummy- he's just using new words.

nappyaddict - DS is 3 years now

Ds1 calls me mummy or my first name. The first name thing is really odd because hardly anyone calls me by it - most people (inc dh) use a shortened version of it.

He just calls dh daddy though.

Ds 2.5 calls us by our names if we don't respond quickly enough to mummy or daddy, or if he has just heard one of us refer to the others name. Has done since he could talk, I don't mind, coz he doesn't do it all the time, and he seems to prefer mummy and daddy most of the time.

cubby - my dc's do that too - they use mummy and daddy but if we don't answer then they shout our full names!

phlossie · 07/04/2008 16:22

DS shouts my dh's name with exactly my fish wife intonation

Piccalilli2 · 07/04/2008 16:28

Dd (2.5) occasionally calls us by our names when she's heard one of us shouting for the other - it's a big joke to her. She also calls me 'darling' or 'sweetheart' sometimes which cracks me up
