Boundaries with electronics

My 8 almost 9 year old has always loved to be outside riding bikes, looking for bugs, and jumping on the trampoline, or inside playing with erector set or building lego creations. He recently made friends with two boys who are OBSSESSED with minecraft. When they play, all they want to do is minecraft. Sometimes they all sit in the same room on separate devices playing separate minecraft games instead of playing with each other. When I take a friend home from school with us, I get constant whining to run him home to grab his ipad, which has unknown parental controls on it. Anyone else dealing with this? I am bothered, but maybe over reacting? Suggestions on healthy boundaries to put on this without becoming the lame house that they don’t want to be at (and thus just go constantly game at the other kids’ houses instead)? Also, how do you manage gaming/other kids’ devices with unknown parental controls during sleepovers?
