car travel nightmares

i need help dd gradually getting more whingey and crying in car. It first really noticed it a few weeks ago when stuck in a traffic jam but now find that every time we go in car she starts and its totally stressing me out! I give her toys to keep her occupied but keeps throwing them away, anyone any advice?

should say dd is just over 12 months old

We survive journeys in the car with mix of biscuits, water, toys. On really long journeys I resort to ignoring them eventually, after all there is only so much you can do.
