I am expecting my 2nd baby in 8weeks and thought it the right time to make the transition for my dd from cot to bed. Her room has been re-decorated and her new bed has been in our bedroom for about a month so she has had time to get used to it being around. She has been very excited about her new bed, telling everybody and pretending to get into it, so we thought it would be plain sailing!
However, this does not seem the case as we tried to put her in the new bed 2 nights ago and she kept climbing out and not settling, so my dh read a story then we said night night, turned the light out, left the room and then she screamed and got out of bed to find us, this resulted in her sleeping in the cot. Last night we got her to go to sleep in her bed by reading a story and leaving the light on (something I don't want to get into a habit of, as she's ok in the cot with the light out normally) and she seemed to stay asleep until we went to bed about 11pm. When we went to bed, I crept in and turned her light off but an hour later she woke up crying hysterically and got out bed all disorientated and was so shaken that we had to put her back in the cot (without the light on) and she went to sleep again.
Should we pursue the bed or leave it for a few nights? The cot is in the same room as the bed and we try and ask her where she wants to sleep, but I think she is frightened of being in the bed in the dark. She has always been really good at going to bed in the cot since now!
