4 month old- confused about sleep/awake times

hi, my 4 month old daughter doesn`t seem to be able to stay awake longer thyan an hour and a quarter at a time, but then only sleeps for 40mins and this is the cycle throughout the day. Could anyone tell me if this is normal? I would quite like her to have longer awake/sleep times. Anybody elses experiences or suggestions would be appreciated.

At that age their patterns change all the time. By the time she is one she will most likely be having one morning and one afternoon nap and then from about 18 mnths just one nap in the day.

They are all different and don't necessarily fit into our 21st century life. I have three, and I couldn't compare any of them.

Does she sleep all night, or go for longer periods?

My ds was like this. He's 7 months now and still only naps for 30 mins but now stays awake for 3 hours at a time. Just enjoy the time she is asleep cos it was around 5 months that ds suddenly was awake more and more and as he only has very short naps he gets very crabby and overtired. Remember that everything is just a phase and by about a year old it should have worked out and she should be having a couple of hour naps a day. Does she seem well rested and happy? If so then she's fine and she'll learn to stay awake nore and more when she's ready. x
