Rejected by my 1 year old

Hi everyone,

I have a 15 month old DD, she is my complete world. Over the last month or so, she has started to reject me, she only wants Daddy or Nanny. I work 3 days a week, one of these days she is looked after by her nanny (my mum) and the other two she goes to nursery.

She will barely let me put her down for a nap or to sleep at night, she will always cry after her Dad at night until I give her her bottle. She won’t give me any kisses or cuddles unless she’s being held by her dad and she will always try to hit/scratch me first until her Dad says no and to be gentle. She is always asking for Daddy or Nanny through out the day, if she sees her Dad while he’s working from home she’ll cry until he picks her up for a cuddle. If she wakes in the night and I go to settle her she will just get herself more worked up because she wants her Dad.

I have no idea what I’ve done to make this change in our relationship, we were so, so close, it’s crushing me.

I was wondering if anyone else had experienced anything similar? The few people I’ve spoken to have said it’s probably just a phase? Am I over reacting? Is there anything I can do to make this better?

Thank you x

@MamaPe I'm sorry, it's really hard. I think quite a lot of children go through phases of clinging to one parent and rejecting the other (then switching!). There are a few theories about why and what it means, but it's almost certainly nothing you've done. That doesn't stop it hurting though.

We give so much of our hearts to these tiny people, who kind of stomp on them at times. Recently, I told DC that I love them - DC thought for a few seconds, smiled and said "No, Daddy". Ouch.
