Please can someone help me understand what this means and how I can help my Son.
At last I am getting somewhere with family guidance and they are suggesting my son may have detachment disorder.

i have never heard of it, but if it is the same as RAD then it sounds awful.

I have also heard it is common with addopted/fostered childre.

My Son is very loved but has had many traumatic events in his life.

i have googled it but not much came up. i know its late, sorry

There is a website called Adoption Uk, not sure if you have to be a member to read their boards but there are many people living with children with attachment disorder who post on there and would be willing to help I'm sure.

It's attachment disorder. Very briefly (coz it's so late and it's way too much to go into in this way) it's where the attachment between the primary care caregiver and a child has been disrupted in some way. That doesn't necessarily imply any wrongdoing on the part of the caregiver - parental depression/domestic violence/poverty/lack of routine etc etc can all lead to attachment disorder. There are different types of attachment disorder, but the important thing is that with work and love, things can be changed. Find out more from the people you're working with about what kind of attachment disorder they think your DS has, and ask them for advice

RAD is a very severe reactive form of attachment disorder, it's associated with children who have had very traumatic childhoods generally so I wouldn't worry too much about or read about that to be honest! It will just scare you

I have just googled RAD to see what comes up, and I would echo thornrose!

Have decided not to look anymore, I dont think my Son has this.

Lets hope!!
