I doubt it Bumbly, Even if he's banging his head he's probably supporting himself a little in the fall isn't he, ie falling slowly rather than crashing. My DD has fallen and bumped her head on very hard stone floors a number of times and it is a worry but she seems fine.

Happened to our dd too and scared us witless at the time.
Particularly the occasion when she hit her head on the stone tiles in front of the fire place.

Thankfully no lasting (or even short-term) damage to report.

I'm sure he will be fine! My DS does this all the time, but has gradually learned to flip himself over to one side and onto his front if he starts to fall. I do put a v-shaped pillow behind him if I'm going out of the room, and often return to find him in some improbable position on the carpet!

bubblagirl · 28/03/2008 10:29

my ds did this we had cushions all around him to make it less painful for the drop he eventually found strenght to hold himself up

WanderingTrolley · 28/03/2008 10:30

He'll be fine.

Put something soft behind him, like a carpet or a cot duvet

Crying could be shock and frustration as much as pain. I've known lots of babies bash their heads deliberately to see what it feels like (or maybe this is just the effect I have......)

He might be learning how far he can lean back without toppling over. Does he sometimes catch himself before he goes?

Ds used to do this for ages or fall forwards and bonk his forehead. He wasn't a good sitter til about 9 months tbh. I just used to prop things behind him or let him roll in peace. You can only do your best to save him from falling
